Known for thousands of years as “The Wood Eternal”, Cypress is a beautiful, high quality wood that is extremely resistant to moisture, heat and insects. This weather resistant lumber has a unique, beautiful grain that stands out with any type of finish. Logs are cut from the heart of the cypress tree, which is the most decay and insect resistant part of the cypress. Because the natural oils in the cypress repel termites and resist rot, it is one of the few wood products that does not need to be chemically treated to protect against such threats. Wood preserving chemicals that may contain cancer-causing agents (carcinogens) are not used on our cypress.
Natural Characteristics
The natural characteristics of cypress make it a very energy efficient building material. Because Cypress has a slow, steady growth pattern, the growth rings tend to be close together, creating a dense, solid wood that will give you a log home that will still be standing solid many years from now. Tiny air holes in the soft texture between the rings provide a natural insulation. All types of woods have air pockets in the soft texture between the rings. The advantage of Cypress is that you get a smaller air pocket that creates an insulating effect which helps to keep your log home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Also, due to the closeness of the growth rings, the cypress tends not to check or shift as much as other woods. Cypress requires little or no gaps to be left around doors or windows in the building process, further enhancing the insulating properties of a cypress log home. Weaver’s manufactures a wide line of high quality cypress lumber at the lowest prices available.
